Hi! I’m Kim – owner, gardener, creator of these unique indoor cactus gardens. I love creating these gardens using the plants from my nursery and the beautiful natural resources of this land I live in…. Collecting driftwood, rocks and pebbles from the coast to create miniature wonderlands for you. What started as a hobby, has led into a little business selling the gardens in North Queensland – in shops, markets and workshops. The nursery is expanding, as is my personal collection – to make sure I have enough plants to fill all the gardens necessary for the demand.
A family tradition led to the creation of these unique gardens. My father, Graham Grant, was a lighthouse keeper on the Queensland coast between 1967 and 1994. His hobby was growing cactus. Mum grew succulents, and when we lived on Cape Cleveland (1971-1985), she would sell at local markets once a month. My siblings and I grew up in this environment – living in remote locations, exploring, fishing, growing gardens, enjoying the wild landscape. During the 26 years as Lighthouse keepers, our family lived on Fitzroy Island, Lady Elliot Island, Dent Island, Goods Island, Low Island and Cape Cleveland.
I still follow in my parents footsteps – as do my sisters – having our own cactus plants and a wide variety of succulents. My particular specialty is creating the unique & individual miniature cactus gardens – little fairy worlds in a dish! I am always looking for new ideas and additions, unusual containers and pretty ornaments to enhance the magical feel, and give life to my vision.
Sometimes just succulents, mostly a mix of mini cacti and striking succulents, as well as hanging and creeping succulents – set in a mini landscape of rock, wood and stone.
Hence ‘Lighthouse Cactus and Succulents’! I bring to you my history and my vision – through the unique succulent and cactus gardens I create, and my vibrant colourful collection of succulents and cacti. I hope you enjoy the landscapes I make – a little flight of imagination, and you too can enter the fairy-like realm in these miniature worlds.
